Episode #38 More Than Brain Rest: The connection between Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI’s) and mental health

As mental health clinicians we may have little scope of knowledge in our understanding of how a Traumatic Brain Injury can affect an individual’s mental health. We all may have some familiarity with brain rest, but there is so much more that clinicians should be aware of to effectively treat our clients. Dr. Alicia Reiser explains how someone might initially appear to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), social anxiety, or depression, when in fact some of these symptoms could be the result of a TBI.
Learning Objectives
- Evaluate if an individual’s mental health symptom could be a result of a previous Traumatic Brain Injury
- Define a mild to severe concussion
- Name the mental diagnosis that could result from a TBI
